Winter Comp Heat 3

June 07, 2010

In Sunday's Heat 3 of the Winter Series we had more than six boats start in fresh southerly winds with a few squalls coming through as the race progressed.  The course set was out to number two buoy, then to number one and back to the pier and the conditions provided challenging sailing for all boats.  One of the squalls came through on the second leg causing the fleet to quickly down spinnakers.

Unfortunately for Peter Banham on Moondancer as the spinnaker was hastily hauled in it became damaged.  Peter was later heard to remark "the tapes on the edge of the spinnaker are fine its just the hole in the middle that's the problem"!!  Fortunately the rest of the fleet managed to get through the squall without any damage.

We had a couple of Carrum boats start but the squalls got the better of them and they headed home around halfway through the race.

Mark Holter in Silver Cloud continues with his good winter form. Full reults here.
