Mordialloc Motor Yacht Club is situated in a unique grassed island setting with both a top class clubhouse and extensive outside grassed area where members may socialise.
The club is one of the few yacht clubs in Port Phillip Bay that provides Trailable yacht owners with the option to permanently have their boat moored in a sheltered harbour, making it both safe and easy for owners to regularly use their vessel. These moorings can accommodate Trailable yachts up to 30 feet depending upon availability. As well, the club has two undercover slipways so members can have their boats maintained on our island. Of course, some Trailable boats also tie up to rig if they are launched from the Council launch ramp. The club has an active sailing program that operates throughout the year.
Our sail days include Sunday mornings at 10.30 am, Thursday afternoons from 1pm and in fortnightly twilight races from 6 pm. Thursday evenings during the daylight-saving months. Twilight and Sunday point score races are always followed by a tasty BBQ cooked by the duty boat but BYO drinks and nibbles.
A cruising division or no extras races are available for the not so experienced sailor providing an event to suit any category of sailor. In all, the club conducts 100 races every year. About 25 yachts compete across our race program and generally the fleet averages 12 to 15 boats per race. The club even has a Race/Cruise to Black Rock for Fish & Chips then a race back home on the third Friday of each month.
The club has an annual classic open feature race – The Longbeach Trailable Passage Race of some 21 nautical miles. This event has been running for over twenty years and is conducted on the second Saturday of February with a 3 pm start and finishing right on sunset. This is a great opportunity for the less experienced to jump on board with someone else if they don’t feel capable of handling the distance or conditions on their own.

MMYC races are conducted under the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing and Australian Sailing regulations for Trailable yachts.
Races are handicapped on a CBH (measurement) and a local club performance handicap system (PBH) that offers the chance for all participating yachts to race competitively across a season series.
A small race fee is charged to participate in our racing to cover costs and trophies. Club and Sailing memberships include the Yachting Victoria membership fee which among other incentives gives members personal insurance cover while involved in sailing and sailing events.
MMYC has a 95 year history on the bay and is proud of its sailing program that caters to the needs of owners of Trailable yachts. If you have a Trailable yacht and are looking for a family club – we will give you a friendly welcome. Alternatively, if you don’t have a boat but want to sail we can get you crewing with our skippers whether you are an experienced or new sailor.
Ours is a friendly club – a great place to sail. If you want to join in the fun ring or text Greg 0400 938 347
