LOCKDOWN FURTHER INFO RE BOATING/FISHING - 28 MAY

Published Sat 29 May 2021

Late yesterday we received a new interpretation of the lockdown regulations from the BIAV (Boating Industry Association of Victoria).

Quote:
“LOCKDOWN FURTHER INFO RE BOATING/FISHING - 28 MAY
BIAV understands that activities such as boating and fishing are permitted so long as -
·    It’s within 5km from your home
·    2 hours maximum per day
·    With your household or one other person (as long as neither of you travel more than 5km from your home)
·    You must wear a mask at all times

In terms of fishing the government’s website states -
Can I participate in recreational activities like fishing?
Yes, fishing within 5km of your home – so long as it doesn’t require the use of a facility – is allowed”

A representative of Australian Sailing has verbally agreed with this interpretation.

A club is specifically not permitted to organise any boating or fishing, and ‘facilities’ may not be used.

So in summary, this interpretation means that the MMYC facilities remain closed to members,
but that a (probably very limited) number of members may use their boats.

Should you wish to take advantage of this interpretation, in the interests of safety please do a QR or manual sign-in (even though you are not using the facility) and carefully abide by the requirements listed above.
